The Moteefe Ugly Christmas Sweatshirt Design Tutorial

Step 1
Firstly, Download and install the font file named ‘xmas_sweater_stitch.otf’ from here.
Step 2
Now you’ll need to download the Photoshop file and double click to open. Note: the bottom layer should replicate the Sweatshirt colour. This is to help you visualize how the design will look on the sweatshirt

Step 3
You’ll see the layer labeled ‘Your Text‘ which is the area you will want to change. Select the Type Tool or Press the T to enable you to type

Top Tip: Depending on the length of the word, you might want to change the size of the ornaments on either side to accommodate the spacing. Press Command T and drag from one corner of the object with the direct selection tool tool to maintain the correct proportions of the shape when adjusting.
Step 5
Now you’ve changed the text, you can add your niche image! You can commission artwork via websites such as Fiverr of if you’d like the Moteefe Design department to take care of this for you, please send an email to sellersupport@moteefe.com describing your design brief including as much detail as possible.

Step 6
You’ve added your artwork and got it at the right size and positioning, now you’ll want to remove the stitches that interfere with the artwork, just how real knitted sweater would work. There are several ways to do this but for a less ‘permanent’ way of removing the unwanted stitches, let’s use the Mask tool. Select the layer ‘stick pattern’ and click mask. Now press B to activate the brush tool. Simply brush away the unwanted stitches

Top Tip: The mask tool enables you to ‘mask’ elements that you don’t want to appear. It’s a non destructive way of working as you’ll be able to undo your working or remove the mask all together. Whilst on the masked layer, use the brush tool with the colour Black #000000 selected and the colour White #ffffff to edit
Step 7
Looking great! Once you’re happy with how it looks, click save and we are now ready to export the png that will be ready to upload straight into the Moteefe builder. Don’t forget to turn off the bottom layer that we’ve labelled as ‘Sweater Colour’ as we only want to send transparent Png’s to print.
Go to File > Export > Export as…

Step 8
Now the Export as dialogue box will appear where you’ll need to make sure a PNG will be exported with the Transparency option checked. (This is default when you select PNG) It’s the only image format that supports transparency, and that’s what our printing machines like to work with!
Now click export and there you have it, your very own Ugly Christmas Sweatshirt design now ready to upload straight into the Moteefe builder. Great job!
