How do I design an Ugly Christmas Sweater?
An Ugly Christmas Sweater is designed to look like it’s been made out of wool and cleverly shows each individual stitch to replicate a traditional wool knitted sweater. Typically the print is placed in the middle of the sweatshirt and made up of individual printed shapes.
You can incorporate classic Christmas symbolism such as Jingle bells, holly, stars, Mistletoe, things from Christmas carols and popular songs. See if you can pull out some phrases or modernise a popular classic by something more ‘on trend’ such as a popular meme that has surfaced this year or a world event.
You don’t have to create an Ugly Christmas Sweater that’s just based on something Christmasy, you can take your own designs that have sold well in the past and then transform it into the infamous ‘Ugly’ style. If it’s sold well before and you are now adapting the design style it will sell well again, it really is that simple.
